Let's get one thing clear first. America is in a good place. America is not falling apart, America is doing well for itself.

However, that doesn't mean that we can't keep trying to make it better. We have to. We have to work hard to ensure that future generations are protected.

What I'm getting at is that we need to continue to raise our voices. We need to call out injustices and we need to fight for what matters to us. The thing about America today is that many times, I think we are focused on the wrong things. We raise our voices at each other, not the people in power who hurt us. We judge each other, we fight online, we sling insults at each other. There are times when social media can galvanize people and make real change. But most of the time, it galvanizes people against one another.

If we want to see change, it doesn't begin with screaming at one another. A disagreement is merely a chance to understand someone else's side. If we want to see change, we have to look to where change starts. It starts with us, but it also starts at the top. Who is making these laws? Who is in power? Who is trying to halt your voice?

It's not on Facebook. It's not in that Twitter War you just got into. It's the people in power who don't care about what happens to you. We have to stand up. We have to fight for what matters to us. So, as we look to the future, let's put our energies where they matter most - seeing real change across the board. Electing the officials who have our best interests. Calling out the corporate greed that hurts us. And fighting the lawmakers who don't care about what happens to our towns. That's where change happens.
