Here’s the thing about events, that happens too often. Some planners/creatives put forth ideas that they like to see, rather than ideas that their client wants to see. It’s why you see the biggest, most extravagant thing at an event when it clearly has no reason to be there. Spectacle needs purpose and reason. Every moment must serve the client and the message. If it doesn’t, then the event is off. And you can tell. It’s looking at you right in the face. Sometimes, it’s hidden under the surface, but you know it's there. You know it when you’ve left the event and you remember nothing from it. You remember it when you haven't given any money to the cause, even though they asked you a bunch of times. You didn't give because they didn't make the case for it. You didn't give because nothing about the event connected with you.
